MINGLE Butter

Mingle Butter is a conceptual project with a unique challenge: designing packaging for a food product with three distinct flavors. This creative freedom gave birth to Mingle Butter – a three-flavor collection breaking free from traditional constraints. With flavors like Blackberry Thyme, Jalapeño Orange, and Lemon Tarragon, it promises to leave a lasting impression and infuse gatherings with an extraordinary touch. After all, butter is better mixed together.

The Strategy

Working with creative freedom presented challenges, but focusing on my choice of food product, butter, led to envisioning distinctive packaging. The goal was to create unforgettable packaging for this extraordinary butter collection, resulting in nested triangular butter containers secured by an outer band. The name 'Mingle Butter' reflects the idea of 'mingling' flavors at gatherings, drawing inspiration from 1920s parties with an Art Deco influence. While the colors departed from the Art Deco era, a color-coding system ensured the flavors stood out on the packages.

Logo, Mark, & Type

When designing the logo and mark for the Art Deco-inspired packaging, I prioritized simplicity to ensure they would stand out amid intricate product details. ‘Saveur Sans’ typeface, draws from Art Deco and French café aesthetics, provided clean, modern letterforms with a touch of retro Art Deco styling, aligning perfectly with the project’s objectives.

Application

Every butter flavor was distinguished by its unique details, which included dedicated illustrations for each flavor and a delightful touch of suggested pairings for a complete and immersive experience. For Lemon Tarragon, the accompaniments included a sweet dinner roll, riesling, and ‘Angela’ by The Lumineers. Blackberry Thyme paired perfectly with a toasted ciabatta, merlot, and ‘Come Away with Me’ by Norah Jones. Lastly, Jalapeño Orange found its match in a sliced baguette, barbaresco, and ‘Got to Give It Up’ by Marvin Gaye. These intricacies significantly elevate the brand and the overall culinary experience.
